Sixty-four Ector and Bowie junior high students have kick-started their college careers after taking the College Board AP Spanish exam in May through the Ector County Independent School District College and Career Readiness program. ECISD implemented the AP Spanish Language Junior High program for qualifying incoming seventh graders at Bowie and Ector in 2007-08. Students scoring 3 or higher on the exam are now eligible to receive college credit for the course at most colleges and universities. Of Ector’s 39 students taking the test, 95 percent scored a 3 or higher. Of Bowie’s 25 students taking the test, 80 percent scored a 3 or higher.
